The G20 Social will have busy days in the beginning of July. Several engagement groups (EGs) are meeting from July 1 to 5 in preparation for the Sherpas meeting in Rio de Janeiro on July 3 and 5, as well as the unprecedented space for civil society intervention. Civil 20, Ocean 20, Parliament 20, Science 20, Startup 20, and Think Tanks 20 will meet during these dates.

However, unlike other engagement groups, Science 20 is the only one that will be promoting its Summit, the final event. Among the agendas is the completion of the official communiqué of science and technology recommendations for the G20 heads of state and government. On July 1 and 2, the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (Academia Brasileira de Ciências/ABC) will chair the Summit of the 8th edition of Science 20 (S20) in Rio de Janeiro.

The motto for year's Science 20, under the Brazilian presidency, is "Science for global transformation". The EG has dealt with topics such as artificial intelligence, bioeconomics, the energy transition process, health challenges, and social justice. The summit, led by ABC president and EG coordinator Helena Nader, sherpa of the S20, will be attended by Ambassador Mauricio Lyrio, sherpa of G20 Brasil and representatives of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, as well as other authorities.

In addition to various representations from member countries and guest countries, representatives from international scientific organizations such as the Inter-Academy Partnership (IAP), the International Science Council (ISC), the Inter-American Network of Academies of Sciences (IANAS), the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences of Asia (AASSA) and the European Academies Advisory Council (EASAC) are also confirmed.

For those interested in following along online, the event will be broadcasted on the Brazilian Academy of Sciences' (ABC) YouTube channel.
