These were the main themes of Brasil's presidency of the G20 that guided the discussions between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Kristalina Georgieva, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF); and Jin Liqun, president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Dilma Rousseff, president of the New Development Bank (NDB), and Fernando Haddad, Brazil's Minister of Finance, also took part in the meetings with the heads of the multilateral financial institutions in Brasilia.
Jin Liqun indicated a desire to strengthen investment ties with Brazil and Latin American countries, with a particular emphasis on climate change mitigation efforts. The Asian Bank's president also promised to assist the Brazilian government in implementing infrastructure and transportation projects.
Jin Liqun: We are committed to doing more to improve connectivity. Asia is a crucial economic partner for Brazil and other Latin American countries. That's why we're committed to collaborating with the government to improve connectivity, adapt to climate change and promote the development of the private sector. We believe there is great potential for us to work together.
